What It's All About

1997 was the creation of MainStreet Hobbs and the idea of Hot August Nites. The first "Hot August Nites" was a half day event. This idea was created by Sylvia Peterson, Nancy Etier, Debbie Alves, Ray Battaglini and others that wanted to create an event for downtown.

In 1999 "Hot August Nites" became a two weekend event and was a huge sucess. Little did they realize how the people of Hobbs were looking for something to do downtown.

In 2000 "Hot August Nites" became "Hobbs August Nites" due to the trademarked name of "Hot August Nites" by Reno. So we had to come up with a new name. After a lot of deliberation on the subject "Hobbs August Nites" was born.

This event continued to grow. New attractions were added and the Car Show and Cruise grew. Entertainers have included: Peter Noone (from Herman's Hermit) The Platters, The Coasters, The California Girls, Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88's, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, The Kingsmen, The Wonders, The Diamonds, Rick Trevino, Jay Perez, Polo Urias, Bobby Wade and the Emperors, Sincerely Elvis (featuring James Wages), Mark Lindsay (from Paul Revere and The Raiders) and others.

Along with this great entertainment, the cruising of Broadway that we used to do in the 50's & 60's was brought back in order to experience the 50's and 60's first hand.

In 2006 "Hobbs August Nites" was cancelled due to ongoing beautification on the streetscape for downtown Hobbs. 2007's "Hobbs August Nites" showcased the new streetscape of OUR downtown. Our beautification of Downtown continues. We look foward to seeing you there!
